Well, here in Greece we have quite a goth activity. We have our own scene, in fact, and, though small, going well^^

America... -sigh.- Where to possibly begin? This country is horrible enough, and the Goth culture is heavily mocked, criticised, and misunderstood. Not to mention Hot Topic ruined the Goth scene here like forever by false advertising the culture. All the little preteens with their parachute pants (which I freaking LOVE and they dont' even make good ones anymore!!), and pleather listening to HIM and Marilyn Manson, thinking they're gawf. It's really kind of sad.

I don't know what it's like in other countries, but Goth is practically ruined around here. There are very VERY few Goths in America who truly know what the scene is and how to appreciate it.

Goth culture in Finland is doing very well, I think. Goths aren't criticised (in public), and many people respect us. Although, there are some morons, but very few really care 'bout 'em. Finland is little bit troublesome country though, goth music and clothing is sometimes really had to find, there are very few goth stores.

In my town, there are maybe two goths, me and one girl... Small town, not-so-special people.

I live now in London and I must say, that here Goth culture is doing very well. A huge goth community lives in Camden Town, where gothic pubs and events are at every corner of the town centre. Goth people walking around dressed in amazing goth uniforms, like there be Castle Party all over the year. When I'm going there I feel this special atmosphere around me and inside me. Lots of gothic shops around, tattoists and piercing specialists everywhere. You can do with your body whatever you want, and you can buy any clothes you want. This place is truly a paradise for every freaks that walking on this planet. I am very happy that I can be at Camden Town every weekend enjoying this place and this atmosphere.

but the quastion is,what is this gothic culture ?

'bout two weeks ago, someone have send me a questionnaire
about idintification this gothic culture i poland

At once topic sounds foolish, how can i identificate with something
what has never exist?
and the second point ... what does it mean gothic culture ?
if gothic cooperate with part of music like darkelectro, noise,
ebm,industrial - ok,but this is not gothic music :)
This is a problem, that a a lot of people dunno distinguish between
gothic style, gothic music and whole electronic alternative music.
electro music won't never be identificated with gothic
if there weren't latex edging around this all :)

Here in Hungary nowadays its more like a fashion... among youths, I mean 12-17 years old. Those who believe themselves "real goths" (I have met dozens) deny these youngs and throw hateful scorns at them for discrediting the style. Everybody hates each other even among the subculture and I have noticed that while goths tend to be offended by not being accepted as they are, they do exactly the same with others (even other goths): they do not accept them as they are.

However, there are some godd examples too. At my workplace, my colleagues fully accepted my goth way of being and thinking, and there was never an offending word or anything. Moreover, they even respect my ways and they often say that at least I have a personality. According to my looks, many should have taken me as a sour leave-me-alone, but they say I am not the least like that.

I only mentioned these just to show that here too, there are some who accepts ways of people who are a bit out of the ordinary.

i live in los angeles, end of story lol... there are alot of your tipical posers who think they are real goths but really have no idea what the term means... and they dont even listen to real goth music, they think avril lavign [however you spell it] and my chem romance are dark goth bands. but we know what the reality is... then there are the people who i personaly think take it too far. complitly absesing over the coulture and are outraged if you dislike a sertin band or sertain thing about the culture... i think i have found the right place for myself tho, i enjoy the music and respect the culture but i dont live the deep dark lifestyle. i enjoy dressing up when i go out with friends sometimes but i dont have the time anymore to spend an hour puting on make up when im only going to be out for 2 hours in class. and my friends are the same, we just enjoy the music. industrial, goth, ebm, noise, electronic, anything we get our hands on...

were around in the 1300's they took rome over and eventually died...poor goths...sorry its a dead scene

however i personally dont define any music as gothic because quite frankly it isnt gothic..most bands will tell you themselves its deathrock..darkwave..anything but goth please..that word dosent define anything...and by the way industrial purist will tell you the same shit when you bring up that horrid word..."its not" ..industrial music and goth are not one in the same never have and never will be EVER! so do yourselves all a favor and stop buying that rehased bullshit that metropolis so errogantly puts out...go to the roots

my opinion

heh.... do not judge everyone by your measure.
For example in my country term "goth" is used to describe whole "dark independent" scene and culture ( with goth and industrial, etc. ). No one says here they "listen to gothic" we are all well aware of what you are saying, so before you try to educate ppl, think twice if its really needed.

and as for what bands are describing themselves, dont be so sure , you would be surpried what terms can a band use in their description.

and please .. your thoughts on who is retarded ... keep them for yourself.
