Darkbeat III 21.10.2006 Wroclaw “Liverpool”

Every single edition of Wroclaw party Darkbeat is different. We've already had a styles and stylistics mixture of the First Vol, then the version performance when we watched Suka Off to dive into cold wave sounds during the Third one. The bands were playing in a dim light and generally speaking all the shows were highly static – know not whether it was their plan or if there wasn't enough space – all in all it was the music that played the main part as both – lights and performance were, gently speaking, moderate.

The band from Wroclaw – Psychoformalina ( www.psychoformalina.com ) – opened the Festival. Their philosophy is quite specific -as you may read on their website they do not flatter the tastes of the audience, nor do they care for publicity. They create highly individual music to suit their artistic way. That's the band. And my impressions? Deeply emotional, strong and engaged vocal, bordering on scream, recitation and complaint imposed the direction on the whole melodic line. At the same time the pounding, piercing and thrilling guitar sound, music that was rising and falling together with depressing, pessimistic lyrics made the audience react vividly. The gentlemen played a.o “Umieram 2x”, “Klaustrofobia”, “Ogien”, “Samotne Modlitwy”, “Mekka”, “Liczymy”, “Szadz” and “Tonacy”.

Bete Noire ( http://www.betenoire.prv.pl/ ) – the second band – presented the music which could be classified as wave, cold wave, post punk, electro, jazz. For me, their music is as if of a psychedelic variety theater, kinder ball for neurotic children, carousel of hypnotic dream and a bit of a nightmarish good-night-sleep-well-fairy-tale. In their music there is a juvenile vocals of Arnold Gorka, intertwining sounds of the instruments, anxiety that one may sense in the pulsating melody, the atmosphere of a sleepy, rainy afternoon, being lost in a big city and melancholia. BN played “Lalki na sznurkach”, “Don” , “Na cztery strony”, “...Of Lonely Hours”, “Anima”, “My Revenge”, “Nothing At All”.

Wieze Fabryk ( http://wiezefabryk.net/ ) is a band from Lodz.. They enriched their concert with visualizations a bit in 3M style (Metropolis, Mass, Machine) and the light of stroboscopes. Their music is such an animal that won't escape from the cage of comparisons to the 80's. It consists of a vocal being an impetuous spitting out of the particular words, a melodized speech, a postmodern preach or perhaps a manifesto of a contemporary city dweller? Well, the world is getting overcrowded, so are our cites, the individuality is getting lost, everything is blending into a homogeneous mass... is the music of Wieże Fabryk about that? It's for you to decide, I can only say the concert was thought provoking... They played a.o “Litzmannstadt”, “Wojna”, “Mikrofony”, “Prośba”, “Deszcz” and “Nędza”.

The last of bands – DHM ( http://www.dhm.com.pl/ ) – is a post punk project from Pulawy. What I heard after the concert and what came to my mind was: the performance of overpowering guitar sounds, charismatic vocalist, scream, contestation, manifesto, dynamics, overwhelming sounds, movement, aggression, tempo and ravishing tone combination. Though the concert ended up abruptly it was one of the most dynamic of the whole Fest. Radovan Sanches was wearing a overall and his mimicry and engagement in the performance scope the audience attention.

After the Festival there was an after party with Joy Division, Sisters of Mercy, Clan of Xymox, The Birthday Massacre etc. music led by Darkbeat Djs Team and all those whom their hearts gave order to play :)
